Guwahati, January 6, 2020:

Indian and Sri Lankan cricket teams on Monday left for Indore from Guwahati for the second T20I match of the series that is scheduled on Tuesday.

The first match of the India-Sri Lanka T20I tie was cancelled due to heavy rain in the city. The match was scheduled at 7 pm, on Sunday.

The second match is scheduled in Indore.

Thousands of spectators had gathered at the Barshapara stadium in Guwahati to support the home team amid rainy weather. Although ground inspection was conducted at 9 pm, the match could not begin as there were wet patches on the pitch.

Amid the frustration over the delay, spectators were greeted to the sight of pitch personnel using hairdryers, steam irons, and even vacuum cleaners in a desperate bid to begin the match.

The match was expected to bring some much-needed relief and entertainment in Assam.

Twitterati wasted no time in trolling the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for this evidently ineffectual way of dealing with the frustrating situation. “The ground staff will have to prove their citizenship. The techniques used to dry the ground are out of this world”, wrote one user, while another said, “Wow, all that money in the BCCI’s coffers and they have problems with wet cricket pitches delaying matches. Who knew that was even possible
