GUWAHATI: Assam boxer and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain claimed the bronze medal after a couple of inspiring wins at the Tokyo Olympics Games.
However, the bronze medalist is determined not to let her recent fame distract her from her goal of winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games.
Lovlina said, "I think it's easy not to get carried away by it because my focus is clear, I am thinking about converting this bronze into gold at the Paris Olympics in three years' time. Till the time I do it, I won't stop.”
"My dream has not come true. I have an Olympic medal but it is not the gold. So, my journey has not ended because I still want an Olympic gold. I am happy that fame has come my way but I am not letting that get to me,” she added.
She further said, "I am not worried about exposure, to be honest. Of course, there will be greater pressure and expectations. But I am getting used to it. Even when I used to go for the World Championships and other games, people expected me to do well. So, I am used to it. Now, there will be more limelight. I will take it as more support for myself and not greater pressure. It shouldn't bother me."
According to reports, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is planning to hold a women’s national championship next month where the senior nationals will be held in Hisar, Haryana.
The gold medallist Lovlina Borgohain will likely be selected for the women’s boxing world championships scheduled for later this year, reports suggest.
Meanwhile, the federation’s secretary-general Hemanta Kalita said, “We are planning to host the women's boxing world championship in the second week of October in Hisar. The final dates and schedules are yet to be decided. It will be discussed next week in the executive meeting."
However, they will also discuss whether Olympians including Lovlina Borgohain should compete or be given an exemption from the senior nationals.
