Mary Kom (48 Kg) won silver medal at 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament held in Bulgaria. She came into the event in pursuit of a third consecutive gold medal after the Asian championships and the India Open and lost to Bulgeria’s Sevada Asenova. It was shocking moment for the Indian corner as the judges took the favour of Asenova. Mary Kom is a five-time World Amateur Boxing Championship and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. It was a stunning moment for her to dominate the bout against the local favourite. She quite literally chased Asenova, who was content with occasional touches and back-paddling evasively. Further, the event finished with two silver medals and four bronze medals. The bronze-medallist are Meena Kumari Devi (54kg), L Sarita Devi (60kg), Saweety Boora (75kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg).
