Guwahati, February 28, 2020:

With a view to promote sports and athletic activities among the divyangs, the Assam Government for the second time has organized a two-day event (Feb 28-29) where the specially-abled will compete to bag honour and glory. The ones who excel at the event will be sent to national and international arenas so that they can bag awards for the State. The events are being held in two categories -- paralympics, and special.

The event, that is being held in Guwahati's Sarusajai Stadium, is seeing the participation of over 400 divyangs from sixteen districts in Assam. They will compete in sporting disciplines such as cricket, football, badminton, athletics, etc, to determine who is the best in tests of strength, endurance, and will.

"We are happy, because paralympic level medal winning sports are being introduced in Assam. The Director of Sports has started this initiative for the first time, 400 paralym. All kinds of sports are here -- swimming, badminton, athletics, football. Dot feel like a chore. All are aiding them in their efforts", said one of the organizers, talking to Inside Northeast.

Despite facing physical challenges, the athletes have shown that they are not behind anyone when it comes to steely resolve and a will to excel in sport and by extension, in life.

Princy Gogoi, a blind girl who took part in the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprinter has expressed gratitude at the Government's  "So happy for the facility for the platform. Others detract from giving us platforms -- they say give opportunities to the normal ones instead -- I am thankful that we have been given the platform."

Some of the top honchos of the State's sports association, including Social Welfare Minister Pramila Brahma will are to visit the Games to egg on the participants to reach for the stars.
