The North East Football Association has been formed and Meghalaya Football Association president Larsing Ming Sawyan and Sikkim Football Association president, Menla Ethenpa have been appointed as the president and vice president respectively.
The decision to form the new body came after the officials of the Football associations from all the eight states of the northeast region held a meeting in Shillong, Meghalaya. They decided to form the North East Football Association to boost the game in the region.

The main aim of the Association is to oversee the development of the sport in the Northeast region. The meeting agreed that the Northeast is the hub of footballing talent in the country, and such talent and football should be developed at a greater pace. They also observed that cooperation of all the eight states should be improved on the different problems faced by each northeastern state.
The association will oversee development of football in the north east states and liase with the central and state governments. It will work to set up a new football competition which will be between the north eastern states in the country.

The other members of the North East Football Association are Hemendra Nath Brahma, Assam, Lalnghinglova Hmar, Mizoram, General Secretary, Kipa Ajay, Arunachal Pradesh, Treasurer, Amit Chowdhury, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland will also appoint a Joint Secretary each.
