NorthEast United has appointed 1998 World Cup bronze medallist and Croatian under-20 team manager, Robert Jarni, as its head coach ahead of the new ISL season.
Jarni will be joining NorthEast United after the departure of Eelco Schattorie, who helped the team to the playoffs last season.
Jarni, who earned 81 caps for the Croatian National side, was the member of the 1998 World Cup side where Croatia won the third position in its first appearance. He also played for Juventus, Real Madrid and Real Betis during his career.
Jarni has managed European clubs like Hajduk Split, Puskás Akadémia FC and Pécsi Mecsek FC, while his last coaching assignment was with the Croatian under-19 team.
"I am thrilled to take on this role at NorthEast United and the project has my full commitment. This is my first foray into managing an Asian club and I am thrilled to bring in an exciting brand of football which the supporters will thoroughly enjoy", he said.
It is to be mentioned that the 'Highlanders' enjoyed their best performance this year as they made the playoffs for the first time. Their dream run, however, was ended by Bengaluru FC in the playoffs.
