TOKYO: In response to concerns about COVID-19, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued various rules for athletes competing in Tokyo 2020. Over 11,000 athletes are expected to arrive in Tokyo for the Olympics in 2021.
According to the sources, the IOC has planned to distribute shots made by Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE, as well as China's SinoVac Biotech Ltd, to athletes who have not been vaccinated before arriving in Tokyo.
According to the sources, athletes will be tested daily after a three-day quarantine upon arrival.
All of the athletes will be stay in a bubble, which means they will not be permitted to interact with the general public and will be required to adhere to certain rules while in the athletes' village.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has established multiple processes in the event that an athlete tests positive during the main event.
The IOC and international federations devised the Tokyo 2020 Sport-Special Regulations (SSR) to establish specific requirements for athletes.

The Covid-19 countermeasures and the Tokyo 2020 Playbooks offer the basis for a safe and secure Olympic Games. As a result, the SSRs serve as backup plans in the event of a verified case.
According to the SSR, if an athlete or a team is forced to withdraw due to Covid, they will be regarded "did not start (DNS)" rather than "disqualified."
In most sports with multi-day competitions, a player or team that tests positive can be replaced.
If a team tests positive after the first round of knockout matches in hockey, rugby 7s or handball, they are withdrawn and replaced by the team that beat them to go to the second round.
If an athlete is in the final of an individual event but tests positive for COVID-19, they are replaced by the next highest-ranked competitor from the heats.
In several sports, including tennis, badminton and boxing, if a player tests positive, the opponent is given a "bye" and no substitute is provided.
If this happens in the final, the player who tests positive will receive a silver medal, while the opponent would receive a gold medal.
