After continuing good show in the national arena by the Tripura Football team, the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Tripura is mulling over the possibility of hiring a European coach for Tripura, said the state's Food Minister Manoj Kanti Deb. Also, the Minister informed us that the State Government has put forth a proposal of Rs 50 crore has also been placed before the commission for developing 4 stadiums in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTADC) area.

Speaking with this reporter in the civil secretariat, Deb said that the football teams of the state, both girls and boys, have performed very well in the recently concluded national events. "This is what prompted us to avail more equipped training to the budding players so that they can develop more skills while in boots", Deb told Inside Northeast.

Apart from this, Deb also informed that a football field and two lawn tennis courts with synthetic coating have already been prepared in Tripura in order to give better infrastructure to the local athletes. “We want to give our players a look and feel at par with international standards. The grounds we have prepared are of international standard”, he claimed.

He also said that the government had placed a proposal of Rs 178 crore in front of the 15th Finance Commission for development of the existing Badarghat cricket stadium and swimming pool. A separate proposal of Rs 50 crore has also been placed before the commission for developing 4 stadiums in the ADC areas.

According him, for better sports atmosphere in the state, the government had started sports coaching centers across the state. Already, there are 106 such centers and the government is mulling to double the number in the coming few months.
