Shafali Verma Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘30-Year-Old Record’ of Half-Century in T20 Cricket

Guwahati, November 10, 2019:

Woman batsman Shafali Verma has become the youngest Indian cricketer to score a half-century in the international cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 30-year-old record.

Fifteen-year-old Shafali Verma scored 73 in 49-ball in the first T20 International match against West Indies.

Shafali’s blazing knock powered the Indian women’s team to a convincing 84-run on Saturday.

She surpassed the record of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had notched up his maiden Test fifty at the age of 16 years and 214 days. Shafali achieved the feat at the age of 15 years and 285 days.

The young player shared a record opening stand of 143, India’s highest partnership with Smriti Mandhana in women’s T20. The woman cricket’s team scored 185 for four against West Indies on Saturday.

The Haryana teenager scored 46 in her career’s second T20 against South Africa at Surat in October.
