Sikkim hosted the Indian Football Awards 2019 for the first time on Sunday at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.
The event was organised by Football Players Association of Sikkim (FPAS) in association with the Indian Football Players Association of India (FPAI).
Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad attended the event as chief guest accompanied by Chief Minister PS Golay.
On the occasion, an exhibition match was also held between the FPAS and FPAI which was won by the latter with a score of 5- 2 in the penalty shootout. From FPAI, Bhaichung Bhutia played as captain while Nirmal Chettri played as Captain from FPAS. Interestingly state's Forest Minister Karma Loday Bhutia also played the exhibition match representing the FPAS.

On the occasion, various retired footballers and coaches including Sikkim's international player Hissey 'Jerry' Basi was also felicitated.
The match was adjudged by National Women referees from Sikkim.
Lallianzuala Chhangte bagged the Young Player of the Year award. Sunil Chhetri from
Bengaluru FC won the Indian Player of the Year award. Elcho Schattorie from NE United was awarded the Coach of the Year. Ferran Corominas from Goa FC was awarded the Foreign Player of the Year award. Sahal Abdul Samad from Kerala Blasters won the Fan's Player of the Year award.
On the other hand, Bhaichung Bhutia, the former Indian Team Skipper, won the Special Award on the occasion.
