Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that jailed MLA Akhil Gogoi is “mentally unstable and has been undergoing treatment at GMCH for psychological issues”.
Addressing the Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the peasant leader violated COVID protocols at the Assembly on the day of the oath taking ceremony.
During the address Sarma further said that “How can you allow a patient to be in the assembly who has been undergoing treatment at the GMCH since past 4 months in a paid cabin.”
Sarma said that in spite of being informed about his mental instability by the hospital authorities, Gogoi kept roaming around in the Assembly going from one person to another.
“It seemed Gogoi came to the Assembly just to spread the virus”, he added.
The Chief Minister went on say that such acts are sheer violations of COVID protocols.
“This kind of behvaiour is an indication of impending illness”, added Sarma.
