AGARTALA: Days after All India Mahila Congress Chief and ex-Silchar MP Sushmita Dev resigned from her post and joined Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC), Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Pijush Kanti Biswas resigned as the party's chief of the state unit.
"With sincere gratitude I thank all Congress Leaders, supporters for your cooperation during my tenure as TPCC President (acting). Today I have resigned from the post of President and retired from politics as well. My sincere gratitude towards Hon’ble CP Smt. Sonia Gandhiji," the senior leader tweeted.
“Our time was arduous... good luck for the future,” Sushmita Dev remarked in response to his resignation.
Last week, Dev, the former president of the All India Mahila Congress, tendered her resignation from the grand old party to join the Trinamool Congress.

Biswa's resignation is a another setback for the Congress in its bid to reclaim power in the northeastern states, beginning with Tripura, which will elect a new government in two years.
Biswas, who is close to former Congress leader Sushmita Dev, is also likely to join the TMC, according to sources.
At least 34 Congress leaders and party workers have resigned from the party’s primary membership and have pledged to strive to build The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) at the grassroots level in Barak Valley earlier this week.
