GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma today said Jonai’s Independent MLA Bhubon Pegu will join the BJP.
“It has been cleared that Bhubon Pegu will join the BJP in a couple of days. He will contest on a BJP ticket from Jonai in the coming Assembly elections,” the senior cabinet minister said at Silapathar today. He is the only Independent MLA in state Assembly and has been extending support to the ruling alliance of BJP-Asom Gana Parishad-Bodoland People’s Front.
A popular Mising community leader, Pegu was elected from Jonai in 2006 and 2016.

Two Congress MLAs, Ajanta Neog of Golaghat and Rajdeep Goala of Lakhipur, had recently joined the BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP state unit president Ranjeet Kumar Dass today said the party will give tickets to candidates on the basis of their activities and performance.
