KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee's landslide victory in the Bhabanipur bypoll today by a margin of over 58,000 votes breaking her own record of 54,213 votes set in 2011.

Her landslide victory has shocked the saffron camp, and there has been an eerie hush at the party's West Bengal State Election Office in Hastings and its state office at 6, Muralidhar Sen Street in Kolkata since morning.

However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Priyanka Tibrewal has conceded defeat, claiming that Mamata did not receive the promised 1 lakh vote margin.

Meanwhile, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, a member of the Trinamool Congress, described Mamata Banerjee's victory as a "reaffirmation of people's faith in the TMC and the party's chief."

Mamata Banerjee, who was defeated in the state assembly elections by BJP politician Suvendu Adhikari after challenging him in Nandigram, contested for re-election in Bhabanipur to save her job as Bengal's chief minister.

The Kolkata seat of Bhabanipur saw 57 percent voter participation on Thursday, despite tensions between the TMC and BJP camps.

After her victory, the TMC supremo claimed to have won in all of Bhabanipur's wards.

"We haven't lost in any of Bhabanipur's wards." This is the first time in our history that we have won in every ward.
