AGARTALA: Tripura police detained seven accused on Sunday on allegations of gang raping four girls, three of whom were minors.
The incident occurred in the Bardhaman Thakur Para area on June 12 under the Ranir Bazar police station.
According to the sources, the victims' families had filed a complaint against eight people, all of whom were between the ages of 19 and 21.
All of the defendants have been identified as Manjit Debbarma (19), Bir Kumar Debbarma (21), Ripan Debbarma (19), Bimal Debbarma (20), Sajal Debbarma (20), Chanki Debbarma (19) and Bishal Debbarma (21).
Police said, "We apprehended the suspects based on the complaint and they were charged with Sections 376 (B), 120 (B), and 2 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act on Monday before produced to court.”
According to the sources, on Saturday evening the victims were invited by their friends to meet them in a neighbouring rubber garden. After the girls arrived at the location, Bimal, Sajal and Ripan along with their other companions went to Bahamanipara where the minor girls were forced and gang raped for hours by the accused.
The minor girls aged 14 to 16 were admitted to a local hospital.
