Agartala: Pijush Kanti Biswas, the president of the Tripura Congress, has written a letter to the Commissioner of the state Election Commission ML Dey regarding the management of the counting process of votes cast for the ADC election on 10 April.
The PCC has demanded CCTV cameras to be installed in all counting centers so that they capture footage of the entire process.
"On behalf of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, we would like to put across our views regarding the counting of ballots of ADC election slated to come off on April 10. I must point out in this context that the conduct of election to the 28 seats of the ADC on April 6 left a lot to be desired as the same was marred by large-scale violence, planned blocking of voters from the booths, and coercive methods to reduce the casting of ballots. Hence it is now essential that the counting process is completed in a fair and smooth manner", he said in the letter.
It has further said that security arrangements must be handed over to the central paramilitary forces for foolproof vigil from beginning to end and no person unrelated to the official process of counting should be allowed to remain within a four hundred meter radius of the counting halls.
It also said that no unauthorized person should be allowed in or near the counting hall under any pretext and the entire counting process should be supervised by IAS or TCS officers as observers in the interest of impartiality and fairness.
"I urge upon your good self to accept and implement the demands made above in the interest of transparency of the democratic process as also for providing a level playing field for all parties. I hope you will not allow the counting process to be reduced to the unfair and highly irregular process of voting level on April 6", Pijush wrote to SEC.
