In a huge boost to the Congress party, more than 3,500 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with its allies Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the opposition Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) on Tuesday joined the Congress 48 hours before the commencement of the Phase-II of the Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing the media, the president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress (TPCC), Pradyot Kishore Dev Burman confirmed the development and said that former Congress MLA from Teliamura constituency in Khowai district Ashok Kumar Baidya, who had recently joined the BJP, has moved back to the Congress.
“This implies the rule of the BJP-IPFT government has fed up its workers in one year. The BJP is losing its ground due to the massive violence and rigging by the BJP during the Phase I of elections," he added.
Meanwhile, Ashok Baidya alleged that he has been forced to resign from the BJP due to the lack of inner party democracy.
More details are awaited.
