The bandh against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is now underway in Tripura. According to reports, the bandh has brought life to a standstill in the Autonomous District Areas. However, in the other areas, where non-tribals are the majority, the 'bandh' has not had much of an impact.

According to reports, most of the schools and offices in the ADC areas have been closed down. Moreover, the bus services connecting Agartala to the ADC areas have also been stopped.

Six trains have been cancelled in Tripura, while two other trains have been partially cancelled on Monday due to strike. Tripura Central University and MBB University also cancelled their examinations, which will now be held on Monday instead.

Meanwhile, a massive security dragnet has been prepared following the strike called by IPFT and some other organisations on Monday.

According to police sources, security personnel have been deployed in large numbers in various pockets to avoid any untoward incident, and maintain law-and-order situation during the strike.

Apart from the 12-hours strike by the ruling IPFT on December 9 in the ADC area of the state, the joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB), a conglomeration of all tribal regional parties, NGOs and student organizations of Tripura, has also called for an indefinite strike across Tripura from December 9, onwards.

Another group of activists, including some surrendered militants under the banner of Tripura United Indigenous People Council (TUIPC), has also called for a 50 hours strike in all ADC areas of the state from Monday morning.

It has been reported that most of the indigenous political parties and civil society organizations in Tripura are against the CAB and bandhs called by the organizations are now underway across the state.

IPFT, which is the alliance partner of BJP in Tripura, has staged national highway and railway blockades from Monday morning, protesting against the implementation of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
