Guwahati, April 8, 2019:

In a sensational twist ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Tripura, Sukla Charan Noatia, one of the dynamic young leaders of the Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT), currently allied with the BJP, is holding talks with Congress President Pradyot Manikya Debburman.

Sukla has just sat down for a meeting with the Congress leader and they are expected to discuss a plethora of issues. According to sources, Sukla is very likely to support the Congress candidates in the upcoming general elections.

Noatia, who had earlier been chosen by the party to contest from the West Tripura Constituency, had to drop out of the race after his nomination was rejected by the returning officer after scrutiny and Brishaketu Debbarma has been chosen as the new candidate.

Meanwhile, IPFT vice president Ananta Debbarma also joined the Congress earlier in the day. This continues an exodus of former IPFT members to the Congress party and increasing headaches for the BJP Government in the state as the two parties are set to lock horns in the upcoming elections in the state.

It may be mentioned that the IPFT was unable to reach a pre-poll understanding with the BJP despite belonging to the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) group of parties.
