The Tripura Government has shut down internet services in the state for 48 hours, amid the ongoing protests against the controversial Citizenship Bill across the Northeast Indian states.

A note issues by the Tripura Government earlier today, read, "It has been reported by Director General of Police, Tripura that rumours are being mongered about ethnic clashes between tribal and non-tribal in Manu and Kanchanpur areas. This has created violent situation in the area. It has been noticed that SMS, WhatsApp and social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are being used for transmission of fake images and videos as well as text messages which have potential to incite violence in the State at a larger rate".

The prohibition of use of SMS and mobile data for 48 hours came into effect at 2 pm on Tuesday.
Violence was reported from various parts of Tripura on the day of the northeast-wide ‘bandh’ that was called by the Northeast Students’ Organization (NESO) to protest against the Citizenship Bill.
In Manughat of Longtarai Valley subdivision, an alleged incident of has taken place on Tuesday.
At Manughat Bazaar, some shopkeepers had opened their shops in spite of the shutdown, which earned them the wrath of the agitators. An altercation took place between the shopkeepers and the agitators, at the end of which, one of the shopkeepers was stabbed.
