The Congress party in Tripura has zeroed in on two candidates who will contest the ensuing elections in the two Constituencies in the state – Tripura East (ST) and Tripura West.
Tripura Congress Chief and Head of the erstwhile Manikya dynasty, Pradyot Manikya, who was long rumored to contest the elections himself, has instead chosen to field his sister, MK Pragya Deb Burman to contest from the Tripura East Constituency.
He took to social networking site Facebook to share this latest development, where he wrote: “Would like to thank AICC for considering Our (Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill) appeal and giving an educated and highly qualified lady MK Pragya Deb Burman the nomination for the East Tripura seat. She will be the joint representative from the Civil Society as well as MACAB (which consists of various organizations and political parties) along with the INC. I am also talking to other indigenous political parties like the INPT/IPFT/NEIDP/NCT/IPFT Tipraha to come and support us in this regard and will be meeting them shortly. I had always said that I will not stand for the elections because I want to now stay in my state with our people. This is my commitment that my sister will speak for the people of the state and not a particular party.”
Meanwhile, Subal Bhowmik, the ex-BJP Vice President in the State, who rejoined the Congress party recently, will contest the other Seat, Tripura West.
