Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday said that the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is yet to make any formal demand in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections to the BJP. He also mentioned that the party candidate to contest the General Elections will be selected after holding discussions with BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav tomorrow.
Speaking to InsideNE, Jishnu Dev Varma said, “We will hold a meeting with the BJP General secretary Ram Madhav tomorrow during his visit here on election-related matters.”
Regarding the IPFT’s demand for separate statehood, Varma said, “The IPFT has not put forward any demand formally, so we cannot react. We are not sure what they are demanding. These issues will be settled during the time of the alliance. They have not made any demands formally till now.”
mentioned that the candidates for contesting the General Elections will be elected after tomorrow’s meeting with Ram Madhav.
It is to be mentioned that the IPFT is on a discussion to form an alliance with BJP for which the IPFT has given the condition that the Tripura East (ST) seat will be given to the regional party in the state whereas the youth members of the IPFT are demanding separate statehood and also are opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
