In a significant advancement in an ongoing investigation into human trafficking, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) has successfully apprehended a suspect in the early hours of 20th June. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the 49 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Kalamchhara Police Station.
The arrested individual, identified as 42-year-old Sharif Mia, resides near Dudhpukur Mosque under the jurisdiction of Kalamchhara Police Station in Sepahijala District, Tripura. Authorities have taken him into custody following a well-coordinated effort among various security agencies.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Agartala GRP, stated, "The accused was taken into custody based on credible intelligence and coordinated efforts among the security forces." This arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling a suspected human trafficking network operating in the region.
Following the arrest, a special investigation team has begun interrogating Mia. Initial findings suggest that additional individuals from the area might be implicated in the case. Authorities indicate that further arrests may soon follow as the investigation deepens.
Sharif Mia is scheduled to be presented in court later today. The police will seek a remand to facilitate continued interrogation and gather more information on the trafficking network.
