Today is the last day of filing nominations for the Tripura assembly elections. Voting for 60 assembly seats is scheduled to take place on February 18, while results will be announced on March 3.
Manik Sarkar led left front government is eyeing to safeguard its bastion and come to power for the sixth consecutive term. Sarkar has been the Chief Minister since 1998 while the Left Front has been in power in Tripura since 1993.
Opposition BJP and Congress are both looking to wrest power from the left, hoping to encash on the anti-incumbency sentiment. Candidates from all political parties are filing their nominations, with a significant number of nominations expected today, being the last day of filing papers.
