The meeting has been chaired by Rajeev Kumar Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Jitendra Singh Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The meeting is organised to emphasize on the need to identify constraints, streamline resources and add renewed focus on the NER. It may be noted that the NITI Forum for NorthEast was constituted in February 2018 with an aim to ensure sustainable economic growth of the North Eastern Region (NER) of the country and periodically review the development status in NER.
The main objective behind the meeting is to make proper strategies for Road, Rail and Air Connectivity in the North Eastern Region, Improving the agriculture and allied sectors in NE states to encourage organic farming, providing soil health card for farmers, to increase coverage under crop insurance. It also includes water management and promotion of tourism. Also identifying and targeting early bird projects in areas of connectivity, agricultural productivity and industrial development to give fillip to bring growth in the NER.
