One suspected National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saraigrwa (NDFB-S) militant was lynched by villagers at Bainggre in East Garo Hills (EGH) district of Meghalaya on Friday, while another cadre of the outfit was gunned down in an encounter by the police.
Speaking to InsideNE, EGH superintendent of police (SP) RTG Momin said the police had specific input about some militants planning to carry out anti-social activities in the area, based on which an operation was launched by the police.
During the operation, the police team came across few suspected persons and when the team challenged them, the latter started opened fire.
The police team also fired In retaliation in which one ultra, identified as Koma Boro of NDFB, was gunned down, while the rest managed to escape.
Another militant somehow managed to reach Bainggre village, but the locals, after learning that he was a militant, apprehended him.
After a brief interrogation, the villagers started to thrash him, following which he died. He has been identified as Aita Boro.
