Tripura: Amit Shah to lead Mass BJP gathering ahead of ElectionsAmit Shah

Guwahati, January 3, 2019:

BJP President Amit Shah will sound the clarion call to party workers in Tripura in a bid to secure the two Lok Sabha seats in the state at a mass gathering of panna pramukhs on January 5. The event will be held at the Swami Vivekananda Maidan and will be attended by 42,000 panna pramukhs and other functionaries. The panna pramukhs are responsible for engaging with the voters directly and each pramukh is required to focus on a page in the electoral rolls.

Pratima Bhowmick, party general secretary, commenting on Shah’s upcoming visit to the state, said that all panna pramukhs will take a pledge to ensure victory for the BJP in the state at the mass gathering. She added that Shah is also scheduled to meet the cabinet ministers of the state.

Speaking to InsideNe ahead of Shah’s visit, senior Tripura journalist Tarun Chakroborty quoted: “The event will be held in Agartala’s Vivekananda Stadium. Shah will come on 5 January and will meet with the core committee and with party state leaders at the guest house. 1 lakh people are expected to be a part of the mass gathering, including the 42,000 panna pramukhs. The panna pramukhs will take oath with candlelight. They are claiming that Tripura is the first state where the panna pramukh custom has been implemented 100%, so the oath taking will start from Tripua. Shah will stay in Tripura on January 5 and depart the next day.”

It is to be mentioned that apart from Shah, the event will also be attended by Tripura’s BJP in-charge Sunil Deodhar, Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav.
