Tripura: Badharghat By-Election Picks up Steam as CEO Announces Last Date of Filing Nomination

Agartala, August 27, 2019:

The Tripura Chief Electoral Officer, S Taranikanti on Monday announced that the last date of submission of nomination papers for the by-election at Badharghat will be on September 4.

On the other hand, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be on September 7.

This was announced after the Election Commission of India announced a by-poll to a single assembly constituency in Tripura.

A many as 58,309 electors will be casting their votes to decide the fate of the candidates of 14 Badharghat constituency. A total of 71 polling stations are to be installed for the election.

The CEO also informed that EVM will be used for the by-elections.

It is to be mentioned that the Election Commission on Sunday announced by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tripura, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh, to be held on September 23.

As per the statement of EC, “The model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or any part of the assembly constituency going for election falls.”

The need for the by-election to Badharghat came up following the death of sitting BJP legislator Dilip Sarkar.
