Guwahati, September 17, 2019:

Tripura Congress President, Pradyot Manikya has indicated that he may quit from his post and also from the primary membership of the Congress Party.

Pradyot Manikya, also known as 'Bubagra' is the head of the Manikya Dynasty and also the President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress. Allegedly he was asked by AICC General Secretary  L Falerio to either withdraw the NRC case which he has filed at the Supreme court or continue as the President of the Party in Tripura. He was also asked not to raise the demand of article 244a by senior congress leaders if he wanted to continue the presidentship of Tripura. The Article 244a includes direct funding to the tribal ruled ADC areas and something similar which has been accepted by the BJP led Sonawal Government in Karbi Anglong.

The NRC case was been filled by Pradyot DebBarma one and a half year ago.

According to insiders of the Congress party, the fact is not NRC but some elements from the BJP party is controlling the AICC Congress General Secretary had demanded that Pradyot accommodate members who recently quit the BJP in key party positions. Something which Pradyot has resisted.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, sources close to Pradyot said, “He will not compromise with the sentiments of the indigenous people, intact we wonder why the Congress is pressurizing him to withdraw the case one and a half years later. If they thought this was a problem then they should not have appointed him earlier. Under Pradyot the congress party gave its best performance in two decades and the vote share jumped from 1.7% to about 30% in the recent Lok Sabha election.”
