AGARTALA: The Tripura High Court recently ordered the state government to stop allowing students from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category to avail the 13 reserved seats in two of the state's medical colleges.
The order was passed by the Tripura HC in a case related to a writ petition, which challenged a notice by the health department, which was published in a local newspaper on November 7.
The notice published on November 7 was about the counselling of students for medical seats. 13 of the seats were reserved for students under OBC category.Out of the 13 seats, ten are for the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), and three are for the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
The petitioner was represented by Advocate Arijit Bhowmik in the court. He challenged the legality of reservation under the OBC category. The High Court Bench heard the petition on November 25. The government submitted its reply on Friday.
The top two medical colleges of the state are Tripura Medical College and Agartala Government Medical College.
