Tripura: INPT-U keen to tie-up alliance with Congress ahead of ADC elections

The INPT (U) (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra United) is likely to tie-up pre-poll relations with Congress in Tripura keeping the longstanding political camaraderie between the parties intact, said INPT General Secretary and second in command Jagadish Debbarma.

Debbarma, speaking after party’s central working meeting held on Monday at Agartala Press Club said, “In the party’s crucial CWC meeting held here in Agartala today, we have decided to begin talks with the Congress regarding a pre-poll alliance. Thus, the Congress party remained a good political ally of the party in earlier also, we were thinking of making the bond even stronger ahead of the polls”.

Apart from that, Debbarma said, we have also opened our doors for all other indigenous outfits if they are willing to join hand with us. Being a responsible and oldest indigenous party of the state the INPT is keen to structure a larger front against the misrule of BJP-IPFT alliance government, he added.

In a related development, the party had also accommodated NCT leaders Animesh Debbarma, Kripajoy Reang, Arun Jamatia, and Rajesh Debbarma to its central executive. The NCT dissolved after the party merged into the INPT and INPT (U) was floated in March this year.

On being asked specifically regarding party’s strategy for the ensuing polls, he said, “We will hold party’s state committee meeting at Khwmulwng based Nodai hall. All the leaders of the party will be invited to attend the meeting where we will unanimously chalk out a concrete strategy for the polls. We will also approach our divisional leaders to propose 3 names with the necessary credentials for being chosen as a candidate for the constituency. Right now, there are 28 constituencies in the ADC areas, Tripura."

He also said, “We already have a chart of unfulfilled demands—inclusion of Kokborok in the 8th schedule, Roman script for Kokborok, Anti-CAA, inner-line permit and all. But, in the polls campaigns we will focus on the core areas where the BJP-IPFT government has failed miserably. We have decided to begin our protest programmes straight away from the beginning of July”.

To a query on the Bru refugee issue, the veteran leader said, “We hope the state government will resolve the issue as per the agreement and the resentments and agitation will not take a move of unprecedented circumstances”.
