Agartala, November 28, 2019:

A 460-member strong delegation from the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) is headed to national capital New Delhi to add to the ruckus over the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Sukla Charan Noatia, one of the youth leaders of the regional party which is part of a ruling alliance with the BJP, confirmed that the party will oppose the Bill at all costs.

"The party's stand is clear -- we will oppose the Bill at all costs", he said, adding that the delegation will reach New Delhi on November 30. Noatia further stated that the delegation from will stage a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, to mark their dissent.

On the ruling BJP party's stand on the issue, Noatia said, "We might be in alliance with them, but we are in staunch opposition to the Bill."

It may be mentioned here that the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), a union of students’ bodies from all the eight northeastern states, has launched massive protests across the region to protest against the contentious Citizenship Bill, which seeks to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries..

Meanwhile, it has been reported that many leaders from the Northeast -- including Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya -- are slated to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the next two days.
