Tripura State Women Commission has lashed out at CPI-M for revealing the specifics of a gang-rape victim of Agartala.
A 32-year-year old woman was gang-raped by ten men on September 24 in the state capital and the following day, the Tripura wing of CPI-M issued a circular condemning the gruesome incident. The state party had mentioned the name of the victim’s husband, his occupation and the address.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and justice for the victim, the women’s commission filed a case against CPI-M worker, Rakhal Majumder, who had signed the circular issued by CPI-M.

Chairperson of Women’s Commission, Barnali Goswami said that it was unfortunate that CPI-M did not have sense, adding that revealing a rape victim’s identity is a punishable offense.
Goswami said that the matter is a serious one and legal action will be taken.
Over the past few days, crime against women have increased in the state. Several incidents of rape and law and order issues have been reported from Tripura. On Sunday, a gruesome rape incident was reported from Gomti district.
A married woman was raped and murdered in Khilpara area of Udaipur in Gomti. Her husband found her lying on the floor after he returned from work.
Four people have been detained in this case.
