90,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 1.35 crore seized in Tripura, one held

The West Tripura District police, on August 7 late night, seized 90,000 Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 1.35 crore from an auto-rickshaw near the Amtali Bypass on the outskirts of Agartala city.
 

Speaking to reporters, West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak said, “We had received a tip-off about illegal activities in the Amtali Bypass area. Based on this input, we intensified surveillance and launched a search operation.”


He said that during the operation, police intercepted an auto-rickshaw near a roadside dhaba and detained one person identified as Subir Sutradhar. Upon searching the vehicle, they recovered nine boxes containing the contraband tablets.


The auto was reportedly moving from Khayerpur towards the Amtali area when it was intercepted. The accused has been arrested and the narcotics have been seized.


Police have initiated further investigation to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt.
