Arms manufacturing tools, live cartridges seized in Tripura; one arrested

Tripura Police arrested one person and seized arms manufacturing tools along with live cartridges during a late-night operation on Tuesday, January 13, in the Kartik Chowmuhani area under Amtali Police Station in West Tripura district.

Amtali Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey said police acted on a specific tip-off received late Tuesday night regarding the presence of arms-related items in a house in the area. A team from Amtali Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Mrinal Paul, immediately rushed to the location, cordoned off the house and carried out a detailed search.

During the operation, police recovered seven cartridge cases, several bullet-related items and tools suspected to have been used for manufacturing arms. One person, identified as Balbair Singh, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The arrested accused will be produced before a court on Thursday, where police will seek his remand to facilitate further investigation. The seized materials will be sent for forensic examination.

SDPO Pandey also said that a case had earlier been registered against the accused in 2024 at Kalamchoura Police Station in Sepahijala district. Police are now collecting detailed records related to the previous case as part of the ongoing probe.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended use of the seized items.
