BSF jawan injured in firing incident along Indo–Bangla border in Tripura, probe underway

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured after a firing incident while on duty along the India–Bangladesh border in Tripura’s North district on December 23.

Police identified the injured personnel as Bipin Kumar, 35, attached to the 97th Battalion of the Border Security Force. He was deployed at the Maheshpur border area under the Dharmanagar subdivision when the incident occurred.

Officials said Kumar sustained gunshot injuries during his duty hours. He was initially taken to a local hospital, where doctors found two injury marks on his shoulder. After receiving preliminary treatment, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care.

Doctors treating him confirmed that his condition is stable.

Police sources said early inputs suggest the possibility that the jawan may have accidentally or intentionally fired his service rifle at himself. However, authorities stressed that the exact sequence of events is yet to be established and a detailed investigation is underway.
