A drone equipped with a camera was recovered early this morning from a paddy field in a Bolla Mukh, a border-adjacent village located in the Belonia Subdivision of Tripura’s South District, raising concerns over possible cross-border surveillance activities.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh. According to Sadhan Majumder, the owner of the paddy field, the drone was discovered around 7 am by one Gopal Pal when he went to tend his paddy field.
“He found the drone lying in the field and brought it to us. We immediately informed the Tripura Police,” Majumder told reporters. He added that similar drones had been spotted flying over the area in recent days. “The Bangladesh border is very close. We suspect it came from that side.”
Soon after the incident, Tripura Police personnel, along with BSF Jawans, rushed to the spot.
Confirming the incident, a Tripura Police personnel said, “Today, early morning, we received information that a drone camera was recovered from a paddy field. We rushed to the spot and recovered the drone. Local residents claim they saw this drone flying a few days ago. We are also suspecting it came from across the border.”
The police have launched a formal investigation into the matter to ascertain the origin and purpose of the drone. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of cross-border intrusion and are working to verify whether the device was used for surveillance or other activities.
