Man arrested with Yaba tablets worth Rs 12 lakh in Tripura
Tripura Police on March 21 arrested a man and seized Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs 12 lakh from West Noabadi, located on the outskirts of Agartala city, officials said on March 22.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Bodhjung Nagar Police Station, Prasanta Kumar Dey, police received specific information around 10 PM about a large quantity of drugs being stored at a residence in West Noabadi.
“Acting on the tip-off, I conducted a drive along with the Deputy Collector Magistrate (DCM) of Jirania, who also reached the spot. In his presence, we carried out a raid at the residence and recovered 11,800 Yaba tablets. The contraband was seized and one person, identified as Dipen Datta, was arrested. The estimated market value of the seized tablets is Rs 12 lakh, and a case has been registered,” Dey said.
The officer further revealed that the accused had previously been arrested in 2022 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“During interrogation, he has made several statements, which are being verified. He works as a pump operator,” Dey added.
Police have launched further investigation to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the seized contraband.
