Mob thrashes man in Tripura on suspicion of child trafficking

A tense situation broke out on November 29, in the Icharbil Solgharia area under the Teliamura subdivision of Tripura’s Khowai district, after locals brutally beat a man, reportedly a brick kiln worker, on suspicion that he was involved in child trafficking. The incident triggered widespread chaos and tension throughout the area.

According to local sources, the man, identified as Sandeep Mahato, was seen talking to children in a way that seemed suspicious to nearby residents. Soon, a crowd gathered, surrounded him, and started beating him. He was dragged onto the road and badly assaulted until he collapsed.

Upon receiving the information, Tripura Police from Teliamura Police Station rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. The injured man was rescued and taken to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Police stated that the purpose of his visit to the area remains unclear and that he is currently being interrogated.

“We received a call claiming that the man was attempting to kidnap a child. When we reached the spot, we rescued him from the public, as he had been badly beaten. He sustained multiple injuries on his body,” said a police official.
