Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tripura on September 22 to inaugurate the newly completed beautification and reconstruction works of the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomati district.
The centuries-old Shakti Peeth, regarded as one of the holiest sites in Eastern India, has undergone a major facelift under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme. The project, initiated after the BJP government assumed power in the state, is now nearing completion.
The Central government sanctioned approximately Rs 38 crore for the renovation under the PRASAD scheme, while the State Government contributed an additional Rs 7 crore.
Officials said the project is expected to significantly boost spiritual tourism and reinforce Tripura’s position as an emerging tourist destination.
On Saturday, top officials—including Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Secretary Abhishek Singh, Kiran Gitte, DGP Anurag, IG (Law & Order) Manchak Ipper, Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, and other senior officers—visited the temple to review preparations ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival.
