Police, BSF detain 16 Bangladeshi nationals from Tripura

Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have detained 16 Bangladeshi nationals from three locations in the state today.




Speaking about the matter, Mohanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mangesh Patari said that they received information that under the Manu Border Outpost of Mohanpur Subdivision in the West District, the BSF had detained nine Bangladeshi nationals, including two children and two transgenders.




“They were detained for illegally crossing the international border and entering India. They have admitted that they are Bangladeshi nationals, and we have produced them before the court. They were identified as Santosh Mallick, Elona Mallick, Dipul Sarkar, Sajal Sarkar, Pari Pal, Ritwika Pal, and Ruma Pal. We are investigating the matter,” he said.
Earlier today, Tripura Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly entering Indian territory illegally by crossing the international border in the Madhupur area of Sepahijala district. According to the Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station, Debajit Chatterjee, the detentions were made based on a tip-off.




“In the early hours today, acting on a credible input and with the assistance of local villagers, we apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals near a village close to the India-Bangladesh border. They were brought to the police station for questioning. A case has been registered, and they will be produced before the court,” the officer said.




He added that all five individuals are members of the same family from Kurigram district in Bangladesh. During preliminary interrogation, one of the detainees, Shahjala Khan, reportedly confessed that someone had assisted them in crossing the international border and that they were en route to Delhi. The detained include two women and three men, identified as Manir Khan, Saheba Khatun, Shahjala Khan, Swadhin Khan, and Dulali Khatun.




Meanwhile, in Belonia under the South District, Tripura Police said they have detained two suspected Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Prantosh Chandra Sutradhar and Subha Das.
“We detained them from a stadium and have produced them before the court, seeking police remand for further investigation,” said a police officer.
