Protests across Tripura over ISKCON leader’s arrest, attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh

Protests erupted in various parts of Tripura on November 27, against the alleged illegal arrest of Hindu leader and ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu, as well as the rising atrocities on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

Tripura shares 856 km long international boundary with Bangladesh.

The protestors have demanded the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu and the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

Today, a right-wing group, Sanatani Hindu Sena, staged a protest in front of the office of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala. The protestors condemned the incident, calling it unfortunate and unacceptable.

“The current interim government in Bangladesh is responsible for the present situation in the country. I strongly condemn such barbaric and repeated attacks on Hindu minorities and ISKCON in the neighboring country. Hindus are not safe there. We can’t accept this. People know how ISKCON works. During the devastating floods in Bangladesh, ISKCON distributed food among all people, and now ISKCON is under attack. This is highly condemnable. We will continue to protest. Bangladesh must accept our demands. We must unite and cannot remain separate,” one protestor told reporters.

Another protest took place in front of the Manughat Land Customs Station (LCS) in Unakoti District, where protestors demanded the suspension of import and export of goods, as well as power supply to Bangladesh.

“We have staged this protest here at Manughat Land Customs for the illegal arrest of the renowned Hindu leader and ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu. They have launched unprovoked attacks on Hindu minorities. We condemn such actions and demand that the Government of India completely stop import and export through this land customs station. Our government should also halt electricity and other aid to Bangladesh. This is a fundamentalist government in Bangladesh,” said the protestors.

The Forum of Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh has also submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala, demanding the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu and condemning the atrocities.
