Over seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Tripura sustained injuries after goons backed by the Tipra Motha Party allegedly launched a sudden attack during the 'Mann Ki Baat' program, at Asaram Bari, Khowai on July 27.
The Tipra Motha Party reportedly launched the attack with sharp weapons, lathis, and also threw bricks at BJP workers.
Many vehicles, including bikes and cars, were also vandalised.
BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma confirmed the incident and said that at booth number 30, the Mann Ki Baat program was underway when around 100 unruly youths of the Tipra Motha Party launched the attack.
“Over 50 goons of the Tipra Motha Party attacked and disrupted the program. They vandalised my vehicle and also attacked the owner of the house where the Mann Ki Baat program was organised. They also vandalised 15 bikes and several other vehicles,” alleged the Mandal President.
He added that six BJP Karyakartas sustained severe injuries after Tipra Motha Party members threw bottles and bricks.
“Around six Karyakartas sustained injuries to the head, mouth, and chest. They brought daos, lathis, rods, and other weapons to attack us,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma told India Today NE that due to the alleged attack by Tipra Motha, around seven BJP workers were injured, among whom two are in critical condition.
Reacting to the matter, BJP MLA from Kalyanpur Assembly Constituency, Pinaki Das Chowdhury, also slammed the Tipra Motha Party for allegedly attacking the BJP Karyakartas and said that the law will take its own course.
Reacting to the allegations, Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma told this publication that not a single Tipra Motha Party worker was involved in the attack.
He said that the attack was launched by CPIM due to an old and long-standing feud against the BJP Mandal President, who was once a CPIM worker.
