Social body seeks police action after vandalism, flags unruly tourist behaviour in Tripura's Jampui Hills
The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW) of Jampui Hills in Tripura’s North District has submitted a memorandum to the officer-in-charge of Vanghmun Police Station, demanding immediate action after a spate of vandalism and rising concerns over tourist conduct in the area.
The representation follows recent incidents in which signboards and posters installed by MCYW and JSBMP were damaged near Hmunpui village. Similar acts of vandalism were reported at the entrance of the paragliding site at Tlaksih. The organisation termed the acts deliberate and unacceptable, calling for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and initiate strict legal action.
In its memorandum, MCYW said the incidents were not isolated but part of a broader pattern that threatens public safety, community harmony and local cultural values in Jampui Hills, a key tourist destination in North Tripura.
The youth body also raised alarm over the open consumption of alcohol and intoxicants by tourists along roadsides and in public spaces. Such behaviour, it said, was incompatible with local customs and posed safety risks, particularly for women and children. It urged the police to increase patrolling and ensure stricter enforcement of existing laws.
To improve monitoring and accountability, MCYW proposed maintaining records of all tourist vehicles entering the region, including vehicle registration numbers, drivers’ names and valid contact details. The group said such a system would help authorities respond more effectively to violations.
Concerns were also flagged over the use of loudspeakers by visitors within village areas, which the organisation said disrupted daily life and disturbed the peace of local communities. It sought restrictions on amplified sound in residential zones.
The memorandum was signed by MCYW president Lalduhsanga Thangluah and general secretary Vanrokima Royte. The organisation said it expects the police to act with urgency to protect the dignity, safety and social fabric of the Jampui Hills community.
