‘Suicide note of Tripura DGP removed and hidden’: Tripura Congress MLA’s claim triggers uproar in Assembly

The Tripura Legislative Assembly witnessed an uproar on Monday, August 31 after the Opposition alleged that a suspected suicide note linked to the death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar had been deliberately removed and kept hidden.

On the last day of the ongoing Assembly session, just before the Question Hour was scheduled to begin, senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman raised the issue in the House. 

He claimed that the wife of the deceased DGP, who arrived in Tripura on Sunday, had sought the suicide note allegedly written by her husband before his death.

“She arrived in Tripura yesterday and asked for the suicide note that was reportedly written by the DGP before his death. The DGP’s wife said she has a photograph of the note. The suicide note has been removed and hidden,” Roy Barman alleged.

However, Speaker Rampada Jamatia intervened and stopped Roy Barman from continuing, stating that the matter could not be discussed under the rules as Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had already made statements on the issue twice.

“Being a senior leader, please do not confuse the people. According to the rules, you cannot discuss the matter in this manner. The Chief Minister has already given a statement on the issue twice. Kindly take your seat,” the Speaker said.

Following the Speaker’s intervention, Congress and CPI(M) MLAs entered the well of the House carrying placards and began protesting over the alleged disappearance of the suicide note.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath intervened and appealed to the Speaker to allow the Question Hour to conclude before permitting the Opposition to raise the issue separately.

Following the intervention, the protesting MLAs returned to their seats, and the proceedings of the House continued.
