Three including one Bihar man held with illegal firearms in Agartala, police launch investigation

Three persons were detained late night on Monday, November 24, near the Amtali Bypass in Agartala after police recovered illegal firearms from their possession during routine patrolling, said Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) Namit Pathak.

Speaking with media accompanied by Additional SP Dhruv Nath, Amtali Sub divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey, SP Pathak said a police patrol team led by Officer-in charge of Amtalij Police Station Paritosh Das stopped an auto-rickshaw in the Bypass area after noticing suspicious movement.

"Upon searching the occupants, the police recovered two factory-made small arms, four magazines and three mobile phones. Of the three detainees, two are residents of Barkathal in West district identified as Tinku Debbarma and Sumendra Debbarma while the third, Suresh Kumar, hails from Bihar", said the SP.

Police said Suresh Kumar had arrived in Tripura only a day earlier and was found carrying the arms.

“A case has been registered against them and we will interrogate them further. Investigation is underway to determine the source of the weapons and their purpose,” SP Pathak said.

All three suspects were brought to the police station for questioning, and further legal action is being initiated and would be forwarded before the court today.
