Tripura: 8 factory-made pistols, 16 magazines seized from unclaimed bags at Agartala railway station

In a major security development, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) along with Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday, May 8 recovered eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines from two unclaimed bags found inside the general coach of a train arriving at Agartala Railway Station.


According to BK Sinha, Assistant Commandant of the RPF, two RPF personnel were on duty at the station when the train (No. 14620) from Firozpur arrived. 


He said that during a routine check, the personnel noticed two suspicious unclaimed bags inside a general compartment.


“They immediately alerted the RPF control room and the Government Railway Police (GRP). We rushed to the spot and recovered the bags. Upon checking, we found eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines inside. However, no ammunition was recovered,” Sinha said.


He informed that the Director General (Intelligence), Anurag Dhankar, promptly visited the site to assess the situation.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police, stated that the train reached the station around 4:30 AM, and the suspicious bags were discovered around 8:00 AM. 


“In addition to the firearms, we also seized some clothes, medicines, and other personal items. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and an investigation is underway,” he said.


Security has been heightened at the station and nearby areas, and officials are reviewing CCTV footage and passenger logs to trace the origin of the bags and identify those responsible.
