Tripura: 9 held with narcotics worth Rs 30 lakh at Agartala Railway Station

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have detained nine persons, including two men from Bihar, and seized contraband worth Rs 30 lakh from a goods-laden container of a train at Agartala Railway Station on Monday, February 3 late night.  


Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station, Tapas Das, said that on Monday late night at Agartala Railway Station, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a joint operation based on a tip-off.  


“We had received information that a huge cache of narcotics was hidden in the parcel van of a train. Based on this input, security agencies searched the container and seized 1,500 bottles of Eskuf, a banned cough syrup. We have registered a case, and based on this, we have arrested nine persons. The estimated cost of these narcotics is worth Rs 30 lakh,” said the OC.  


He said that the arrested persons have been identified as Amit Kumar Srivastav, a resident of Bihar; Chintu Yadav of Uttar Pradesh; Suman Mia of Agartala; Chotan Deb of the Khayerpur area in Agartala; Aktar Hossein and Chan Mia of Khowai District of Tripura; Rajib Sutradhar of Agartala; Majarul Islam of Bishalgarh under Sepahijala District; and Prasenjit Das of Ampi Nagar.  


“We have produced them before the court, seeking police remand for further interrogation,” he added.
