Tripura ADC Polls: BJP’s Devid Debbarma calls Ramchandra Ghat contest ‘one-sided’

In a strong show of political mobilisation ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, a massive bike rally was organised in support of BJP state secretary Devid Debbarma, who is contesting from the strategically significant Ramchandra Ghat constituency in Khowai district. The polls are scheduled to be held on April 12.

The rally saw enthusiastic participation from party workers, youth supporters, and local residents, signalling robust grassroots support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the run-up to the elections.

The Ramchandra Ghat seat has emerged as one of the most closely watched constituencies this election season. While the BJP has fielded a key organisational figure in Devid Debbarma, the Tipra Motha has nominated a young candidate, Jamesh Debbarma, setting the stage for a keen contest.

Speaking to India Today NE during the rally, Devid Debbarma described the upcoming election as a defining moment for both development and identity in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas.

“This is a very significant election, not just for development and progress in the ADC areas, but also for the people of Ramchandra Ghat. For the first time, a national party candidate is contesting from here, and the response from the public has been overwhelming,” he said.

He further noted that the enthusiasm among party workers and youth supporters reflects growing aspirations for change.

“People are celebrating what they believe will be a victory-not just for me, but for the party and for leadership that stands for progress,” he added, hinting at continued campaign efforts, including more large-scale rallies in the coming days.

Taking a swipe at his opponent, Devid Debbarma dismissed the challenge posed by Tipra Motha’s candidate, stating that his rival lacks local roots.

“This is not a big concern for us. He is not even from this constituency and is seen as an outsider,” he remarked.

As campaigning intensifies, the Ramchandra Ghat constituency is shaping up to be a key battleground, reflecting broader political currents within the ADC regions. With issues of development, representation, and identity at the forefront, all eyes are now on April 12, when voters will cast their ballots in what promises to be a decisive contest.
