Tripura: After seven decades without power, 82 families in remote villages get electricity

After nearly seven decades without power, 82 families in Batta Para and Shambhuram Para of Tripura's Dhalai district finally have access to electricity through a solar microgrid project.

Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited the remote villages to oversee the implementation of the PM-DevINE project that has brought this significant change.

"I feel lucky to be able to light up a village where people have never seen electric light, even after so many years of independence. Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Nath during his inspection tour.

The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency installed solar panels and microgrid systems to provide electricity to 46 families in Batta Para and 36 families in Shambhuram Para. The project has also enabled street lighting and improved water supply infrastructure.

"The smiles on the faces of these people with such small needs seem more precious than all the happiness in the world," Nath remarked while observing the impact of electrification on village life.

The minister highlighted that these communities had been overlooked for decades. "This place existed earlier as well, but no one took steps to look after it. But after our government came to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working for the development of the tribal communities," he said.

The solar-powered system allows these economically disadvantaged families to enjoy electricity without the burden of utility bills. "They are poor people, and they do not need to pay electricity bills," Nath confirmed.

The government plans to continue development efforts in the region. "There is still a lot of work left to do, and we will continue our efforts. We are committed to the development of the tribal communities," the minister added.
